CG created Environments

What exactly is a CG Environment and how is it different to a Photographic Environment?

So … CG Environments behave the same way as photographic backplates. They can be used as environments for CGI vehicles or to refresh the background for traditionally shot vehicles. They are unique in that the majority of elements have been computer generated and have been created for automotive imaging. All our CG Environments come with matching 360º HDR Domes.

These files are large with unlimited use from web applications to massive outdoor super sites. Like the Photographic Backplate they’re supplied as 16bit Tifs to include lens specs and camera heights within the file’s metadata. They also come with the added bonus of customised adjustments such as camera height, lens size, lighting direction and rendered textures if needs be. All these options come together to help make these backplates very versatile.

The 360º HDR Dome can be supplied as a photographic Dome or a CG Dome. Because these files are shot or created at the same time as their photographic or CG created backplate environment they assist the retouchers. This assistance includes the environment lighting and reflection references that need to be rendered onto the 3D / CG created model. By utilising these elements through the render process your retouching team will have the tools to deliver a very realistic end result.
